A-League: Victory defeated by Roar

Victory started the stronger team, pushing forward against the away Roar side, however it was Brisbane who struck first. The 7th minute saw Brisbane Roar Marquee striker Massimo Maccarone put the ball in the bottom right corner of the Victory goal to put Brisbane up 1-0.

The game went back and forth for the next 20 minutes, until Brisbane struck once again on the counter attack through a Brett Holman goal.

Victory had a few chances to narrow Brisbane’s lead before half time, however some great saves from Roar keeper, Jamie Young denied Melbourne.

It was a better second half by Victory, who continued to press the Brisbane goal. It took until the 83rd minute for Victory to finally get a reward through a goal of the year contender by substitute James Troisi.

Unfortunately, Victory couldn’t close the gap on Brisbane and the game finished 2-1 to Roar.

Victory next play Adelaide United on Saturday the 24th of February at AAMI Park.
