A-League: Victory triumph in Derby

The Melbourne Derby is always a dramatic affair, and Friday night’s game lived up to that notion.

It only took Victory a minute to put the ball in the back of the net through Kosta Barbarouses, however VAR correctly ruled the goal offside as Berisha interfered with the play.

On the 12th minute, no VAR decision would deny Barbarouses, who was put through on goal by Berisha and put Victory up 1-0.

Victory had plenty of chances in the first half, as did City.

City struck the crossbar through a free kick, however no team could find another goal and the scores remain level at the half time break.

The second half saw Victory come out of the blocks firing however it was City who scored against the run of play through a Fornaroli penalty in the 54th minute.

My Club Victory player of the match, Leroy George showed his class with some eye catching skills, nutmegging his opponent.

A short time later, George put Victory ahead 2-1 with a header, assisted by a beautiful weighted pass by Leigh Broxham.

Victory’s tactical defending was too superior for City’s forwards, denying them space and not allowing them in on goal.

Melbourne Victory had a few chances to increase their lead however could not capitalise on goal.

The game concluded 2-1 to Victory, winning the game titled “the decider”.
